No More Limits: Rural Philippine Schools Embrace Online Learning with Satellite Internet

More than 20 schools were connected to the Internet by Limitless Tech Solutions Inc., a member-partner of unconnected.org. These were situated in rural locations in Aurora, Cagayan, Batanes, Cavite and Rizal, all in Luzon, Philippines.

Schools are organic hotspots of connectivity given the primary use of the Internet as a complementary tool for education and research such as online access to latest developments, as compared to antiquated literature from old textbooks and other offline references.

Communities are likewise very vibrant around schools which also provides for an enabling environment and motivation for local operators such as LTSI to provide connectivity solutions in the countryside.

“Meaningful access to the Internet is important nowadays, all the more to students accessing Free WiFi - they are able to learn beyond the classroom setting,” said Mike Mauleon, COO of LTSI.

Key to the realization of projects like this according to LTSI is the use of satellite internet technologies that allow for straightforward deployments in the most rural of places. The ease of implementation lowers costs and hastens service provisioning in areas where Internet is much needed. This creates an incentivizing ecosystem where people definitely utilize the connectivity and local providers investing more on digital infrastructure.
